A graduate of St. Lawrence School in Greece who traveled around the world with a reality-show celebrity to document deaf culture has had a documentary accepted into the Deaf Rochester Film Festival.
David Justice, a graduate of St. Lawrence School whose alma mater followed his globetrotting, helped to make “Discovering: Shuktara,” a documentary about 18 boys and girls in Kolkata, India, who build a new life together after having been cast off by their families because they are deaf or have cerebral palsy.
The film will first be shown to the public March 28 at the George Eastman House at a time to be determined; it also has been submitted to 14 film festivals around the world. Fundraising is ongoing for the film’s post-production costs. Details are available at www.discoveringdeafworlds.com and www.deafrochesterfilmfestival.org.
