St. Monica Parish announces temporary changes in Mass times, location

St. Monica Parish and the Emmanuel Church of the Deaf will be celebrating Masses in a different location this weekend due to the start of a renovation project at St. Monica Church, 831 Genesee St.

Mass on Saturday, July 25, will take place at 5 p.m. at Aenon Baptist Church, 175 Genesee Street, Rochester. A soup supper will immediately follow the Mass. General parking access for the Masses at Aenon will be from Moran Street at Genesee, next to Unity Health System’s Genesee Street Campus (the former St. Mary’s Hospital). The handicapped-accessible parking lot will be accessible from Kirkland Road at Genesee Street.

In future weeks, Saturday Masses will take place at 4 p.m. unless there is a wedding at Aenon Baptist Church. Details about the schedule will be announced in the parish bulletin and on the parish Web site.

Masses on Sunday morning at 9 and 11 a.m. will be celebrated at the Staybridge Suites Rochester University, 1000 Genesee St., Rochester. The 11 a.m. Mass is said in sign language for the Emmanuel Church of the Deaf and is voice interpreted.

The renovation project at St. Monica’s, built in 1915, will cost about $1 million and is expected to last seven to nine months. It comprises the addition of a new gathering space, asbestos removal, audio-visual improvements and creation of better accessibility for people with disabilities, according to a statement issued by the parish.
