St. Monica plans homecoming

St. Monica Parish and Emmanuel Church of the Deaf are inviting the community to celebrate the completion of nearly nine months of renovations to St. Monica Church, 831 Genesee St., Rochester. The community will gather from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, and at Mass at 10 a.m. Sunday, April 11, as parishioners return to their newly renovated building.

The April 10 celebration at St. Monica will feature performances by St. Monica’s music groups, the Aenon Baptist Church Choir, and young people interpreting music through dance and sign language. The event will include recognition of Aenon Baptist Church and the Staybridge Inn for hosting Masses while renovations took place. It will be followed by light refreshments.

The April 11 Mass will feature the celebration of St. Monica Parish and Emmanuel Church of the Deaf as one community. All are invited to join the celebration.

The renovation project at St. Monica, built in 1915, cost about $1 million and added a new gathering space, removed asbestos, made audio-visual improvements and created better accessibility for people with disabilities.
