ROCHESTER — When Ss. Peter and Paul Church closes, St. Peter’s Kitchen plans to remain open, according to Patricia Lorenzen, the kitchen’s director.
The kitchen is located on the grounds of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 720 W. Main St., which is slated to close. The church’s buildings are currently for sale, and Lorenzen said if any new owners wish to allow the kitchen to continue operating on the property, she would welcome that decision.
“Hopefully, we won’t have to move,” she said. “It probably will depend on who purchases the campus.”
Lorenzen said she wanted to reassure the kitchen’s financial supporters and volunteers that the ministry will continue regardless of the future of Ss. Peter and Paul. She added that St. Peter’s Kitchen is separately incorporated from Ss. Peter and Paul, but will continue to affiliate with the Catholic Church.
In addition to serving up to 165 people a day with a noontime meal, the kitchen also operates a donated clothing closet and provides other services to the area’s low-income residents.
“It’s a pleasant, safe atmosphere for an hour, and our staff and volunteers welcome each person with dignity,” she said.
