Not every grammar school student gets to play outside daily for recess. St. Rita School kids do! Every day all 300 students get a 20 minute recess on the playground, unless it is below 20 degrees or raining hard.
This week fourth-graders started building a snow fort with giant snowballs during the first recess (third- through sixth-graders) and the second shift recess (kindergarten through second-grade) added to it.
“The joy that you see as 150 kids run full boar onto the snow covered playground is incredible. Kids making snowmen, forts, snow angels and just throwing themselves into the fun of winter is a gift to everyone," said one volunteer lunch monitor. “The teachers and parents appreciate it too,” she added.
