St. Salome Church in Irondequoit plans cemetery service for its centennial

One hundred years of Catholicism in Irondequoit will be celebrated during a prayer service at 11 a.m. May 25 at Irondequoit Cemetery. The service will be held at the mausoleum in the back of the cemetery and will follow the 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Salome Church.

The event is part of the centennial of St. Salome Church, which is the oldest Catholic church in town. Prayers will be offered for all deceased family members. Participants are encouraged to visit and pray at the graves of relatives and friends after the service.

Contingent upon weather and the town’s approval of a parade permit, walkers will process south from the church, 4282 Culver Road, to the cemetery, which is on Culver Road between Hoffman and Seneca roads. Walkers may carry a cross or crucifix and a representation of St. Salome. Participants also may ride to the cemetery, and rides will be available afterwards to bring walkers back to the church.
