Statewide kinship program started

There’s a new statewide program run by Rochester’s Catholic Family Center to help New York’s 200,000 kinship caregivers, who are grandparents and other non-parent family members raising children.

Catholic Family Center has received a $250,000 grant from the state Office of Children and Family Services to start a statewide program to give kinship caregivers information and referrals about services and legal, financial, educational, health, mental-health, support-group and housing resources in the area.

Kinship-care specialists are trained to answer questions regarding eligibility for public assistance, tax credits and child-care, access to official records, fact sheets on laws and forums for service providers.

The resource is available through the Web site or by calling 877/-4KinInfo (877/454-6463) weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
