Stewardship Day scheduled for Oct. 18

Keynote speakers, workshops and Mass with Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will highlight Stewardship Day 2014. The annual diocesan event is set to take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at Church of the Assumption, 20 East Ave., Fairport.

The day will kick off with 8 a.m. Mass offered by Bishop Matano. Breakfast is at 8:30, followed by the first part of a keynote address from Father Mark G. Reamer, OFM, of Raleigh, N.C., whose talk will be based on Matthew 10:8 — "Freely you received, freely give."

At 10:15 a.m., two workshops will be held. Deacon John McDermott, executive director of the diocesan-affiliated Providence Housing Development Corp., will speak on "How Do We Know Stewardship is Working?" In addition, John Cunneen of Connecticut, who specializes in helping Catholic organizations with fundraising, will speak on "Parishioner Engagement and Parish Communication." At 11:15 a.m., the keynote’s concluding portion will be given by Father Reamer and Sue Mathys, who serves as stewardship coordinator at Father Reamer’s parish. They will speak on how to encourage stewardship throughout the liturgical year. Closing prayer is at noon.

Cost for Stewardship Day is $10 per person and includes breakfast. Registration deadline is Oct. 10. Registrations should be completed online through St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry.
