Tim Shaffer and Shane Ruddy, of St. Patrick’s School in Seneca Falls, earned top honors for their school when they competed in the annual DeSales High School Oratorical Contest, which was held May 4.
Tim won first place in the fifth- and sixth-grade division of the contest, and Shane won first place in the seventh- and eighth-grade division.
Reid Castner of St. Michael’s School in Penn Yan and Ashtin Braman from St. Francis-St. Stephen’s School in Geneva won second place and third place, respectively, in the fifth- and sixth-grade division.
Emma Meiggs of St. Francis-St. Stephen’s School and Claire Fritz of St. Mary’s School in Canandaigua won second and third place, respectively, in the seventh- and eighth-grade division.
The students won by presenting excellent speeches that answered the question, “How has Catholic education nurtured my belief in God and helped me to develop a commitment to God, the church and the world?”
