To the editor:
After reading your article about the pain an unborn child experiences during an abortion (Catholic Courier June monthly edition, “Bill highlights pain of unborn babies”), I have a suggestion: Please consider using the pronouns his/her or him/her, instead of its, to further personalize the babies. To rewrite your sentence “inserting a device into his/her head to suction the brain out, killing the child and collapsing his/her head…”
As to the content of the article, I am also concerned about the pain of the younger fetus when killed by a curette. That, at least, is over in a few minutes. The children who suffer most are those killed by the introduction of a concentrated salt solution into the uterus. The salt burns their tender skin, and in their convulsive attempts to escape, they inhale the salt solution, burning their lungs. It can take hours for the child to die. Thanks for listening. Thanks for all your good work.
