St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira will host two "safeTALK" suicide-awareness training sessions on Friday, Sept, 10. Those interested may attend from either 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. in the hospital’s Ye Olde Chapel meeting room.
SafeTALK trains people age 15 or older to appropriately identify others with thoughts of suicide and connect them to such resources as suicide first aid and intervention caregivers. Participants will learn to apply the "TALK" steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe).
This initiative is being organized by the Chemung County Department of Mental Hygiene. Training sessions are free to the public. Registration is required. To register, call 607-737-5501.
