Dear Friend,
Over the years, I’ve often been humbled by the dedication of loyal readers like you. Time and again, three-quarters of readers report that the Catholic Courier is the first source they turn to for news of the Catholic Church, the Diocese of Rochester and its parishes.
Thousands follow the Courier on social media, frequently leaving touching comments of condolence or congratulations for the subjects of our stories. Readers watch our videos and livestreams; listen to our podcasts, engage with interactive projects like the Advent Calendar and related contests; and subscribe to e-newsletters that highlight new additions to the wealth of digital-only content on our website.
And this year, we were touched by a handful of generous and unsolicited reader donations that, together, offset a modest deficit we incurred for 2025.
That deficit highlights the challenges of publishing today. Although the Catholic perspective on the news is needed now more than ever, we struggle with a decades-long decline in print-media advertising, skyrocketing rates for postage to deliver the printed Courier to your mailbox, and ever-growing competition for online readership. We simply cannot meet these and other challenges without calling again on the support of our readers.
In this Catholic Press Month, will you stand up for the Courier? We’ve provided a pledge card below that lists a range of tangible actions — most of them non-monetary — by which you may wish to show your support. Please fill it out to let us know we can count on you!
In sincere gratitude for your loyal readership.
Franz is general manager and editor of the Catholic Courier and El Mensajero Católico.
