Bishop Salvatore R. Matano was installed as bishop of the Diocese of Rochester on Jan. 3, 2014, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. He is the ninth bishop to serve the diocese, succeeding Bishop Matthew H. Clark.
Bishop Matano was ordained a priest at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome on Dec. 17, 1971. He was ordained to the episcopacy on April 19, 2005. Bishop Matano later noted his ordination took place about one hour after Pope Benedict XVI was elected the 264th successor of St. Peter. Prior to taking on the leadership of the Diocese of Rochester, he was Bishop of Burlington (Vt.).
