Newman Community

College campus ministries are frequently known as Newman communities, in honor of St. John Henry Newman, a British theologian and cardinal who encouraged formation of societies for Catholic students at secular colleges and was canonized in 2019. This collection of articles addresses Catholic faith on the college campus, whether or not the specific campus community is named after Newman.

Catholic college campus ministry within the Diocese of Rochester takes place on 20 college and university campuses across the 12-county area of the diocese. These include an Ivy League institution, SUNY campuses,  private colleges and universities, Catholic-heritage and Protestant colleges, and community colleges. Campus ministries work to be the Catholic Church’s presence to all involved in higher education.
