Religious orders with a current or historical presence in the Diocese of Rochester include the Basilian Fathers, Capuchin Franciscans of the Province of St. Mary, Carmelite Fathers, Discalced Carmelites, Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (Trappists) at the Abbey of the Genesee, Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart, Missionaries of the Precious Blood, Order of St. Benedict, Redemptorists, Sisters of Mercy, Society of Jesus (Jesuits), School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of St. Joseph, and Sisters of the Cenacle.
