To the editor:
I have but one voice — what good will it do? Sound familiar? I shudder to think of all the times I have used that excuse and did nothing. Now I have another chance, and so do you.
One of the greatest evils in this world now is that of disrespect for human life as manifested in abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, euthanasia and the death penalty. It is due to get worse if the Freedom of Choice Act and/or Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act passes. I don’t want my tax dollars paying to snuff out a life for which God has planned for all eternity. Who among us knows what these persons will become?
I have read several letters to the editor in this paper where some are chiding the bishops and priests for not speaking out before the November election. Several have, but unfortunately their words have fallen on deaf ears. I have read many articles, heard homilies, and listened to Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, EWTN among others deal with these topics. Many of them have urged us to write to our representatives in Washington and Albany. Have we?
Surely we can find a few minutes in our busy schedules to write to Charles Schumer and Kristen Gillebrand, our representatives. Let them know, respectfully, how you feel about the value of each and every human life, and urge them to “do the right thing” in voting against FOCA and the Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act.
And, don’t forget to pray. Pray for our president, the lawmakers and all those scientists and abortionists who hold these precious lives in their hands. We could be instrumental in removing this evil from our world. If each of us does our part, together we can make a difference!
