Our Lady of Mercy High School physical-education teacher Stephanie Barbero, her daughter Nina and friend Lisa Jones say they have set several world records for the longest continual row on Concept 2 Indoor Rowing machines during a tandem rowing event April 28 and 29 at the Fairport Crew Club Boat House in Fairport.
Barbero and Jones say they have set the record for women ages 40 to 49 for the longest continual row by rowing for 25 hours in tandem, and Nina Barbero has broken the women’s under-19 continual row world record for rowing for 25 hours on her own. Nina Barbero rowed 100 miles at the event, while Jones rowed 75 miles and Stephanie Barbero rowed 72 miles.
The event aimed to raise money in support of friend Megan Markus and her family; Megan suffered a traumatic brain injury in 1996 during a car accident and is dependent on others for her care.
Stephanie Barbero said checks are still coming in, but the group hopes to have raised several thousands of dollars for the Markus family.
