To the editor:
The August letter, “Polls differ with headline,” by Casey & Mary Ellen Lopata, indicated that “many Catholics in the pews” rejected church teaching regarding same sex marriage.
Similarly, there were Catholics that rejected Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae Vitae in 1968 and the following years.
As Catholics we should realize that we are bound by church teaching not Gallup polls.
No matter how pleasant and productive these same-sex couples appear … true compassion demands that we work to save their souls. Polls just get in the way.
