Teachings are the answer

To the editor:

“AIDS and Catholic morality” (July 2005) needs clarification. Theologians have theories. The Magisterium of the Church has authentic teachings. I don’t believe the Church ever “allows for the killing of innocent civilians in limited cases” (p. A10). I do believe that even in a “just war” injustices can occur such as killing of innocents. Likewise abstinence not condoms is a moral solution for a marriage when one partner innocently contracts AIDS. Prophylactic intent does not justify the end, viz. interference with conception. In fact, knowingly conceiving an AIDS baby is premeditated murder and still possible even with a condom. Countries where rape, incest, extramarital intercourse are “custom” need to be civilized, evangelized, not condomized. The simple truth is on p.1: “it’s virtually impossible for someone who follows the Catholic Church’s moral teachings on sexuality to contract HIV…”
