Teens to collect money, food for Souper Bowl

The annual Souper Bowl of Caring, a national ecumenical effort to raise money for the hungry, will take place Feb. 4.

Each year on Super Bowl Sunday, youths participating in the national effort collect food and money for those in need. Participating teens usually stand outside their places of worship, often with large soup kettles, and urge people to donate at least $1 as they leave.

The Souper Bowl of Caring has raised $33 million since 1990. In 2006, teens from at least 12 Finger Lakes parishes were among the state’s 557 participating groups, which raised $164,758.15 and collected 30,733 canned items.

To find out if your parish is participating, contact the parish or visit www.souperbowl.org.
