ROCHESTER — Rochester Emergency Action Committee for the Homeless will again provide temporary shelter for residents until the House of Mercy reopens in its newly renovated building on Ormond Street early in the new year.
Last winter, in cooperation with the Diocese of Rochester, REACH operated a temporary homeless shelter on Prince Street in the former Corpus Christi Church rectory that served about 150 residents. This year, residents in need of shelter will be housed at Redeeming Word Community at 59 Ontario St. until the House of Mercy’s expected reopening in January. The temporary shelter will be called “The Bridge Home,” according to information from REACH.
The shelter, which expects to operate for up to two months, is in need of volunteers and donations. For more information, visit http://reachrochester.wixsite.com/reach or e-mail reachdonations2016@gmail.com.
