Thank God It’s Spring! Yes, I know, spring "officially" arrived last week, and we "sprang forward" for daylight-saving time almost two weeks ago, but for me spring only just arrived yesterday. That’s because I just noticed my tiger lilies have begun to pop up. More than anything else seeing those first green shoots tells me that spring has finally arrived. I have to tell you, I don’t always notice right away. This year, for example, they were about 2 inches out of the ground when I saw them. I’m sure they had been working their way up and out for a few days before I became aware of them, even though I drive past them each time I pull into my driveway. Yet I only saw them for the first time yesterday. That was when I finally took a moment to look with some intention at my yard. The tiger lilies, of course, had certainly been percolating underground for some time. All that I saw when I finally took the time was the result of weeks of growth underground. So some questions now are percolating in my mind, inspired by tiger lilies. What’s been growing underneath the surface in my life through this Lent that might spring forth next week at Easter? What other signs of growth have I missed because I haven’t been looking with intent? How might I help others in my life look for signs of growth around and in them? I’ll let some of these questions move around in my mind over the weekend. Maybe I’ll even consider planting some new flowers soon …
