Three area churches to hold prayer vigils

Prayer vigils on the third anniversary of the United States’ invasion of Iraq have been scheduled in Tioga, Chemung and Schuyler counties.

A vigil will take place March 19-20 at St. Patrick’s Church, 300 Main St., Owego. It will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday and run continuously until 6 a.m. Monday. A short prayer or service will begin each hour, followed by 40 to 45 minutes of silent prayer and reflection.

A prayer vigil for world peace will be offered March 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 304 Demarest Parkway, Elmira. The vigil will begin with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the 10:30 a.m. liturgy and conclude with Benediction.

Also, a prayer vigil will be held March 19-20 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Church, corner of Ninth and Decatur streets, Watkins Glen.

All are welcome at these events.
