Tickets are on sale for the second-annual Empty Bowls Open Hearts Luncheon, to be held Oct. 16 at the Elmira College Campus Center.
The event will take place in conjunction with National Hunger Awareness Day. New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Emeritus Carl T. Hayden will serve as guest speaker. A group of volunteer “potters” from Elmira College and local high schools are already working to produce 600 commemorative soup bowls.
In 2006 more than 400 people, including numerous corporate sponsors, attended the inaugural Empty Bowls event, raising $15,000 for the Catholic Charities Samaritan Center in Elmira. The center provides food, clothing, household items and prescription-drug assistance for families in need.
Tickets for the Oct. 16 luncheon are $20 each, with tables of eight available as well. To purchase tickets, call 607-734-9784.
