Timothy Leahy new Siena principal

Timothy Leahy, assistant principal of Siena Catholic Academy in Brighton for the past four years, has been selected as the school’s new principal, effective July 1.

Leahy succeeds Father Joseph Grasso, CPPS, who was recently appointed principal of Aquinas Institute in Rochester.

Leahy has worked a total of 16 years in diocesan schools. From 1967-73, he taught at Our Lady of Lourdes School in Brighton, and then served there for three years as principal. From 1976-79, he served as deputy superintendent, and then as superintendent, of diocesan schools.

From 1979-2000, Leahy worked as a senior manager with Chase Manhattan Bank. He retired from Chase to work at Siena, which houses grades seven and eight.

Leahy is a 1968 graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, and holds a master’s degree in educational administration from the State University of New York College at Brockport. In a diocesan statement, Leahy said he was excited about the opportunity to lead Siena.

“Having been here for four years will help make for a very smooth transition,” he said. “I look forward to continuing to work with the families and students at Siena.”

Sister Elizabeth Meegan, OP, diocesan superintendent of schools, hailed the selection of Leahy for the principal’s position.

“His experience in administration at the diocesan and school level -> particularly the four years that he has spent at Siena – will help ensure that our program at Siena will remain at the level of excellence that parents and students have come to expect.”
