Father Robert Moore of the Abbey of the Genesee Trappist Community in Piffard died May 19, 2012. He was 90 years old.
Father Moore was born in Boonville, Ind., and spent his boyhood years in the Detroit area before moving to the Bronx, N.Y. After graduating high school he enrolled in Maryknoll Missionaries. He was ordained a priest in 1949 and spent 30 years as a missionary in East Africa. He joined the Abbey of the Genesee in 1981.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Moore Lorente of Valladolid, Spain; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his fellow Trappist monks at the Abbey of the Genesee.
Father Moore’s funeral Mass was held May 23, 2012, at the Abbey of the Genesee. Burial was in the Abbey of the Genesee Cemetery.
