Trumansburg pastor takes new assignment

After an eight-year tenure as pastor of St. James the Apostle Parish in Trumansburg, Father John Tokaz, OFM Cap, is relocating.

In a message that appeared in the July 13 parish bulletin, Father Tokaz noted that he’d been asked by his provincial superiors to assist young friars at the Capuchin house of formation in Boston. He was due to move there in early August.

"After eight years in this wonderful parish of ours it is difficult to leave, but I am sure that it is God’s will for me now," Father Tokaz wrote.

Father Tokaz had served in Tompkins County since 2006. Prior to St. James the Apostle, he spent nine years as chaplain at St. Joseph’s College of Maine.

His replacement at St. James is Father Bernard Maloney, who also is a Capuchin priest.
