Two parishes collect footwear for needy

St. Mary Parish in Waterloo and St. Patrick Parish in Seneca Falls are collecting shoes for needy adults and children in Nicaragua. They are accepting donations of all types of shoes, including sneakers, sandals, boots, galoshes and dress shoes.

Donated footwear may be left at the drop-off station next to Koch’s Body Shop, 2085 Routes 5 and 20 in Seneca Falls. Donations also may be left at St. Mary Church, 25 Center St. in Waterloo, between 9 and 10:30 a.m. until Aug. 26.

The collection is part of the parishes’ involvement with the Nicaragua Project, which the parishes have participated in each year since 1993. Each summer the parishes collect and send several tons of food, clothing and supplies to Nicaragua, where Ann Marie Zon, a lay volunteer missionary from the Buffalo area, then distributes the supplies among the area’s needy.

For more information, contact St. Patrick Parish at 315/568-5203 or St. Mary Parish at 315/539-2944.
