To the editor:
As mid-term elections approach, Catholics should focus on human life issues. Abortion, of course, tops the list in importance followed by euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research,
Unfortunately, a loophole called the “seamless garment” has been used by Catholics to vote for pro-abort candidates.
This concept conceived by the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin would consider abortion of no greater importance than other life issues.
Voters, for example, could support pro-abortion politicians like former Governor Mario Cuomo who supported abortion but opposed the death penalty.
While there are bishops who support the seamless garment ideology, other bishops find it sinful. As Catholics we must consider support for abortion an abomination and vote accordingly.
The late Blessed Mother Teresa stated that abortion is the root cause of violence in the world today. We should heed her advice and pray the Rosary to end the evil practice of abortion.
