To the editor:
Maybe you’re right (see “Note to readers” on commentary pages of last month’s print edition) that people took a late summer vacation. But I wonder. I wonder if the contributors of money to the Church are content with the life that goes on inside the Church. Perhaps this saga is similar to the story about the Federal Government. They want to tax the people but do not want government by the people and for the people.
Isn’t the Church for the people?
The churches are not as crowded as they used to be. People have drifted away. Maybe you are right. Some people are on an extended vacation and saving their money.

EDITOR’S NOTE: As can be seen by the abundance of letters on these pages — more than we could print — it appears that the letter-writing vacations to which we referred have ended. Overflow letters will be posted in the Commentary section at www.CatholicCourier.com.
