Volunteers begin construction of Ogden home for the dying

Volunteers began construction Sept. 19 on a new home that will offer round-the-clock care for the terminally ill in western Monroe County. Aurora House of Western Monroe County is being built at 2495 S. Union St. in Ogden. All services will be offered free of charge.

Many volunteers have worked for two and a half years to plan, design and fundraise for the comfort-care home. Ogden Presbyterian Church donated a 1.85-acre parcel of land for the 2,500-square-foot home; Shultz and Associates donated the civil-engineering services for the project; and Greater Living Architects donated the architectural-design services.

The home is scheduled to be open by the end of summer 2010. Donations of construction material and services are still needed, and fundraising to support operations is ongoing.
