Volunteers from the Southern Tier are being sought to spend a week working in New Orleans as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to recover from Hurricane Katrina.
Workers are needed to help gut homes filled with mold and decaying material. These homes pose a risk of disease that could lead to an epidemic once temperatures rise in summer.
Sister Mary O’Brien, CSJ, pastoral associate at Ithaca’s St. Catherine of Siena Parish, is seeking more volunteers (ages 18 and up) to form a group of the suggested size, 10 to 15 people. Those interested should write to her at firstname.lastname@example.org, with “New Orleans” in the subject header.
