Waterloo churches celebrate Real Christmas

Community volunteers and representatives from Waterloo’s various Christian churches and the Waterloo Business and Professional Organization will stage the village’s annual Real Christmas celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 6.

Costumed volunteers from the village’s churches, including St. Mary Parish, will re-enact scenes from the Nativity story. These scenes will be played out at various locations along Main Street. Volunteers from St. Mary typically portray Mary and Joseph in the final scene of the Nativity story.

The event also features Christmas carolers, warm food, entertainment and horse-drawn wagon rides, as well as a raffle and Chili Taste Off. Customers who make purchases at any of the 12 participating businesses will be eligible to enter the raffle. The grand prize winner will be drawn at 4 p.m. in front of the post office.

Chili-tasting stations will be located in 10 village restaurants, and people are encouraged to stop in and taste the various chilies between noon and 3 p.m. Tasters will be asked to donate $1 or more if they like the taste, and all proceeds will be donated to the Seneca County Christmas Project.

Children also will be able to meet Santa Claus and have their picture taken with him from noon to 3:30 p.m. at Patchen’s Real Estate, located at 13 W. Main St. Photos will be sold for $5.
