Father James Fennessy, pastor of St. Mary Parish in Waterloo and St. Patrick Parish in Seneca Falls, will celebrate a Mass of peace and justice at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at St. Mary Church, 25 Center St.
The Mass will commemorate the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in the U.S. The Mass will be held at approximately the same time thousands of other pro-life supporters — including some from the Finger Lakes region — will be attending Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington, D.C., before participating in the 35th-annual March for Life.
According to the General Instruction for the Roman Missal, the day also has been designated as one of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person through acts of abortion, as well as a day of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.
