Waterloo will commemorate the 65th-annual National Day of Prayer on May 5 with a 6 p.m. celebration at Lafayette Park on West Main Street.
The celebration at the park will include prayer for government leaders as well as for members of the military, churches, families, media, educational system and businesses. The theme for this year’s celebration is "Wake Up America," according to Judy Mayne, organizer of the Waterloo event.
"This day will emphasize the need for individuals to place their faith in God, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities and men. At this crucial time for our nation, we can do nothing more important than pray in unity with millions of other Americans, in bringing light and hope to our country through the power of prayer," Mayne said.
Participants who wish to sit down during the celebration are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
