The local Knights of Columbus Webster Council No. 4618 celebrated its 50th anniversary with a jubilee dinner-dance April 18 at the Knights’ home on Barrett Drive.
As part of anniversary celebrations, the council’s history was highlighted in a commemorative book. The council has given an estimated $850,000 to organizations and individuals in need of aid.
The council has provided Mass and Communion services to residents at Hill Haven Nursing Home for 41 consecutive years, has hosted appreciation dinners for area religious for 34 years, and has hosted an annual Christmas party and summer picnic for the Finger Lakes District Disability Service Office for 26 years.
For the past 39 years the council has distributed charitable contributions during its annual charity ball to agencies that help developmentally disabled children and children in crisis, health-related agencies and community-support groups. It also has hosted charity pasta dinners; weekly bingo games, which provide income for the Knights’ charities and for the upkeep of the group’s Barrett Drive home; and poinsettia delivery at the holidays to widows, the homebound and the ill. The council’s other annual events include Easter egg hunts, Christmas parties and free-throw contests.
