Webster Knights raise money to buy winter coats for children

On Sept. 1, the Webster-based Trinity Council No. 4618 of the Knights of Columbus will launch its annual fund drive in support of the Coats for Kids program. Through this annual program, Knights’ councils throughout the United States and Canada are able to purchase winter coats at discounted prices and distribute them to children in need in their local communities.

Over the past nine years, Webster’s Trinity Council has used the money raised through its annual fund drive to purchase 1,896 new winter coats, at a cost of $22 apiece, according to J. Stewart Coon, chairman of the council’s Coats for Kids efforts. In 2019, the council purchased 420 coats and distributed them to more than a dozen charitable organizations and school districts in Monroe and Wayne counties.

“The coats are given to various charitable organizations around the second week of December, in time for colder weather and Christmas,” Coon said.

Trinity Council’s fund drive will run through October. Those interested in donating may do so by sending checks made payable to Knights of Columbus No. 4618 to “Coats for Kids,” care of J. Stewart Coon, Chairman, 230 Champion Ave., Webster, NY 14580.
