Weekly mission slated for Schuyler cluster

Schuyler Catholic Community (St. Mary of the Lake, Watkins Glen/St. Benedict’s, Odessa) is holding a Lenten mission with the theme “It is Right to Give Him Thanks and Praise: Celebrating the Eucharist.”

The mission will take place at St. Mary of the Lake on Sunday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m., with hospitality to follow. A principal speaker will be featured each week, focusing on a different dimension of the Eucharist. The public is invited to attend any of the sessions, with the schedule as follows:

* Feb. 13: Prayer combining music and Taize; reflection; and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction. Leader: Deacon Dan Pavlina.

* Feb. 20: A general overview of the Eucharist, and suggestions on preparing to celebrate the Eucharist. Speaker: Father Patrick Van Durme, pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Steuben County.

* Feb. 27: Lecture on “Penitential Rites and the Eucharist: The Relationship Between Reconciliation and Eucharist.” Presenter: Father Phil Billotte, sacramental minister at All Saints Parish in Corning.

* March 6: Lecture on “What Are the Gifts We Bring to the Table?” Presenter: Father Van Durme.

* March 13: Lecture on “Being the Body of Christ: The Challenge of Being Christ for Others.” Presenters: Deacon Tom Driscoll of St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry and Cris Wensel of Catholic Charities of Steuben County.
