You know that old saying, "What goes around comes around"? I understand it a lot better after a day of reckoning I experienced on Feb. 17.
Just two days prior, staff photographer and social-media guru Tamara Tirado convened a meeting to discuss adding a staff blog to our website. The entire newsroom crew got together to brainstorm blog names and ideas for posts. Tamara whipped us all into a creative frenzy and got us excited about giving our readers a glimpse of who we are as individuals.
Then she dropped the bomb on us.
If we wanted to do this thing, if we wanted to share a bit of ourselves with others, we had to — GASP! — have our pictures taken!
What goes around comes around, indeed.
Now, mind you, I’ve made a career out of getting people like you to go out on a limb and let us put your views and photos front and center on the Catholic Courier‘s print and Web pages. I’ve always appreciated your willingness to do so. And now, I’ve gotten a little taste of the feelings of angst and vulnerability you must experience when our staff members show up looking for news.
With that in mind, we primped a bit, smoothed out our clothes and put on our best smiles for the Feb. 17 photo shoot. And, of course, hilarity ensued, because like I said, we journalists are not used to having the tables turned on us! (You can view the outtakes below.)
In the end we wound up with a decent picture. And in the end, I hope you like what we have to offer in this new endeavor. Welcome to "Our Two Cents"!
