Well-wishes for Bishop Clark

To the editor:

"Thank you" to all of the staff of the Catholic Courier, plus all others involved in putting together the booklet that was enclosed in the (Courier’s September issue), "Bishop Matthew H. Clark – An Appreciation." Great job by all.

Yes, from a simple man of the cloth to be elevated to Bishop only after being ordained 17 years is quite an accomplishment. I’m sure that Bishop Clark had your ups and downs in the care of the Rochester Diocese for the past 33 years. Now he can take a good rest and relax, unless his successor finds you something to do in the Diocese.

Bishop Clark, it was interesting how you cared for your Catholic people in the Diocese, but also of other faiths as well.

It was my privilege to be able to be at the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard for occasions when Bishop Clark was there, to give the Abbatial Blessing upon Father John Denburger, plus the ordinations of Father Stephen Muller and Father Eugene Chung as priests for the Abbey a few years ago. Your Excellency, your sermons were excellent.

I was not able to be at the Abbey for Father Gerard D’Souza’s Abbatial Blessing or Father Issac Slater’s ordination in August. I was privileged to share his First Mass on the Sunday following

One thing I"ll remember you for is the beautiful renovation of Sacred Heart Cathedral. Simple, yet beautiful to worship in and with its new organ.

Bishop Clark may you enjoy many years in retirement; you deserve it, that’s for sure. "Thou Art a Priest Forever".
