When giving thanks, also give trust, hope and love

I recently read that to give thanks to God in all things, we must be able to trust in God for all things. Trust that God will provide what we need when we need it. Trust that God is always with us, even when (or even more so when) we are going through the difficult times. Trust that God always answers our prayers, even if not in the way we were expecting.

Here are a few of my favorite borrowed phrases on sharing, giving and joy, which seem appropriate to this time of year.

• Joy shared is joy multiplied.

• Love isn’t love until you give it away.

• If you choose not to find joy in the snow, you will have less joy in your life, but still the same amount of snow.

Every day, I am reminded that the more we give, the more we receive. Let our hearts be full of both thanks and giving. Let our hearts be open to receiving what others have to offer. And in this busy season of giving, let’s not only give thanks, but also give our hearts, give our trust, give hope, give love, give joy, give time and give ourselves to all those who are in need. Empty out yourself in order to receive what God wants you to have.
