Several Catholics from Chemung and Schuyler counties received Works of Love awards during the annual Catholic Charities Social Ministry Dinner, held June 4.

This year’s honorees are:

Gert Peck from Chemung County Ladies of Charity. She was noted for serving as a communications link among the organization’s members, encouraging them to participate in service projects and advocacy.

Rosemary Nabogis, Mary Beth and Emily Wayne, Deacon Dan and Jeanne Pavlina, and Bob and Diana Groll, from the Schuyler Catholic Community cluster. This group was recognized for its leadership involving the Community Table ministry of St. Mary of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen, which provides free weekly meals for neighbors in need.

Carol Stein, Theresa Banik and Michele Nichols from Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Elmira. These women were recognized for their leadership this past year in helping three social-ministry committees transition into a single unit for their newly formed parish, as well as for leading several social-ministry efforts.

Catherine Seely from St. Mary Our Mother Parish in Horseheads. She has served as a member of her parish’s social ministry for more than a decade, providing leadership and creativity on a variety of initiatives.
