Writers promote cross purposes

To the editor:

In the latest issue of the Courier, Tony Magliano writes that over one million African children die annually from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. He requests readers send $10 to provide a bed net to protect them from the malaria-carrying mosquitoes.

On the adjacent page of the Courier, Joel Freedman of Canandaigua writes in his lengthy letter to the editor that the use of pesticides must be stopped. While his article’s emphasis is on the use of yard and garden categories, he cites comments by various state and federal officials warning of the dangers of all pesticide use.

Who then decides what is best to save these innocent children that depend on the adults for survival and a chance to help mankind as they mature.

As for me, I don’t believe giving them fly swatters to protect themselves will get the job done.
