Gene Therapy: Scientific Principles and Ethical Considerations: The 2023 Scientific Lecture of the Society of Catholic Scientists Rochester

Gene therapy will be the topic of the 2023 Scientific Lecture of the Society of Catholic Scientists Rochester. Gene therapy, in which human genes are edited and transferred, is a revolutionary scientific and medical advance which is entering mainstream medical care. Dr. David Dean is a University of Rochester basis scientist who works in the field of gene therapies for lung diseases. He will discuss some of the science behind gene therapy. Dr. Shand is a University of Rochester physician and bioethicist. She will discuss the ethical principals that should be considered as gene therapies are introduced to direct medical care.
Dr. Dean is a member of the Our Lady Queen of Peace in Brighton and Dr. Shand is a member of St. Louis in Pittsford.
