Each fall Heberle Farms welcomes migrant workers to pick thousands of bushels of apples in their orchards in Brockport and Orleans County. The men, many of whom hail from the Mexican state of Michoacan, come to the U.S. on temporary visas which allow them to do seasonal agricultural work. They work long days, seven days a week, through good weather and bad so that they can send money back to their families. They sing and laugh and never complain about their tedious task, which many say is easier than the fruit and vegetable picking they do in Mexico.
